Dog
Dogs are a species appearing in real life and the Animal Crossing series alike. Several dogs are villagers, and the most well known one is Isabelle.
Dogs are the only species with notably different breeds, though only the special characters exemplify different breeds. In addition to the default dog breed of the villagers, there are also akitas, bulldogs, chihuahuas, jack russells, poodles, shih tzus, and spaniels.
There is a total of twenty-eight dogs in total in the Animal Crossing series. Eight of these are special characters and the remaining twenty are villagers, twelve of which are male and eight of which are female. Three are peppy, one is snooty, three are normal, one is sisterly, seven are lazy, two are jock, two are cranky, and one is smug.

- Of the four canid species in the games, the dog is the only one to be comprised of both villagers and special characters; the wolves are all villagers, while the Tanuki and the only kitsune are special characters.
