― Phoebe, Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Phoebe (ヒノコ, Hinoko) is a sisterly ostrich villager who first appears in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and returns in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Both Phoebe's English and Japanese names are plays on the mythical phoenix, one of the Japanese words for which is hi-no-tori, roughly translating to "firebird". Her initial phrase is most likely a reference to the sparks that come from a fire. She has the fitness hobby.
Appearance
Phoebe is an orange-red and brilliant yellow ostrich with spotted wings. Given her name, color scheme, and the Flame Tee she wears as her initial outfit, it's likely that she is supposed to resemble a mythical phoenix. Her appearance is somewhat similar to Rio's, another female ostrich that first appeared in the early games of the series and returned in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Personality
Phoebe is a sisterly villager. When befriended, she will give the player fighting tips and teach them ways to relax. Phoebe will also give the player medicine if they are stung by a wasp. Like all sisterly villagers, Phoebe is tough, but she will still care deeply about her appearance. Phoebe has a tendency to stay up very late at night. It is easy to get her picture since developing friendships with sisterly villagers is simple due to her caring and protective nature, sometimes talking to the player about her friendship with her old neighbor's son. Phoebe may get along with jock villagers who share her love of sports, lazy and normal villagers for how laid-back they are, and peppy villagers. However, she may conflict with smug and snooty villagers due to their arrogant nature. Phoebe may clash with cranky villagers due to their similarly stubborn personalities, but often end up becoming best friends.
House
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Phoebe's house includes a variety of furniture themed to her appearance, with red, black and yellow pieces. Her room includes a Gorgeous Bed, a mini squelchoid, a glass-top table in the center, a fireplace, an electric guitar, two simple sofas, and a poinsettia. Her wallpaper is the backgammon wall, and the checkered tile is her flooring. She has a turntable playing K.K. Flamenco.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, her room is very fiery, referencing the mythological phoenix she is based on. She has the Magma-cavern wall and Lava flooring, a Log stool, a red Camping cot, a tiki torch, a Simple DIY workbench, a Bonfire, and a Log bench with a red Mug sitting on the right side of it. Depending on the time of day, she may also have a red Cute music player playing K.K. Flamenco placed on the Log stool.

Trivia
- She is one of the mythical creature villagers along with Julian the unicorn, Drago the dragon, and Hans the Yeti.
- Her birthday is on the real-life holiday, Earth Day.
- This is highly ironic, as it is a day for protecting the environment, and phoenixes prefer to keep things burning. Naturally, it seems that phoenixes and trees do not go well together.
- In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Phoebe's preferred styles are Cool/Gorgeous, and her preferred colors are Black/Red.
- Phoebe appears on the album cover from the K.K. Song K.K. Parade and K.K. Salsa.
- It was formerly Rio on the e-reader card, in place of her.
