In the GCN versions and N64, the theme is restful, similar to a boy or girl coming home from school, or a person watching TV. The melody itself gives off the main vibe of it all.
In Wild World and City Folk, the beginning of the 4 P.M. melody starts out happily, but starts to fade away sadly as the day ends. It uses an accordion, simple electronic drums, a vibraphone, etc. Comparing with other songs, this one is fairly short.
In New Leaf, the song predominantly features accordion and clean electric guitar with some reversed accordion and some quiet steel drum. The song gives off a very Wild World-like feeling with the accordion sample. It may combine the themes from both the original and the Wild World/City Folk tunes along with a completely different texture to it.
