Tom (バンタム, Bantamu) is a cranky cat villager in the Animal Crossing series. His North American name is based on tomcats, another name for male cats. His name and appearance might also be a reference to the Tom and Jerry cartoons. He was absent in Animal Crossing: Wild World, but returned in Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. His Japanese name is a reference to Bantamweight, a weight division in boxing.

Appearance

Tom is a blue cat with a white-tipped tail and muzzle. His hands and feet are also tipped white. He looks similar to Moe. His ears are straight and blue with a strawberry pink in the center of them. His appearance may be inspired by Tom from the Tom and Jerry cartoons, as Tom looks quite similar to the Tom from the cartoons. He carries the Flame Umbrella.

House

Tom's home is very neat and oriental, containing furniture from the Exotic Series. It contrasts with his cranky personality. Upon obtaining a stereo, he will play K.K. Rally.

Tom's preferred theme is cool and he will primarily gift the player with wood when they fulfill his requests.

His profile says:

Rumor has it that Tom is a former bantamweight Junior World Boxing Champion. What no one knows is that he still can't fall asleep without his favorite cat toy.

• Due to him being a cat, sharing the same color pattern, and having the name "tom" some are lead to believe he is a reference to the cat in the Hanna Barbara Cartoon: "Tom and Jerry"
