Chow is a Bear Villager with a Cranky personality introduced in the first game and has appeared in all games to date.

Etymology

  • His English name, Chow, comes from a variation of the Chinese surname Zhou, and may be an attribute of his panda-like appearance.
  • Its Spanish name, Pando, also reflects its overall panda design.
  • His German name, Chang, reflects how his design is based on a Chinese animal, as the name 'Chang' is Chinese.

Appearance

Chow is a pink panda with black arms, eyes and legs. He also has a mole under his left eye. His arms and legs are slanted with a light brown, and the inside of his ears are light blue with black on the outside. Chow initially wears a star shirt. He can be mistaken for a lazy villager because of his eyes.

Personality

Chow has the Cranky personality, so he will usually appear agitated or in a bad mood and will be harder to make friends with than other types of villagers. When he talks to the player, he tends to get angry if the player disagrees with him or refuses to do him a favor. Like all Cranky villagers, Chow will invest time in his hobby and will often challenge the player to various competitions. He will easily get along with villagers like Jock, Snooty and other neighbors Cranky, and sometimes also with villagers lazy and normal. However, he will find it difficult to socialize with Peppy villagers, as they will seem overstimulated or immature. Chow will also enjoy spreading rumors about other villagers.

House

Chow's house in all games uses the Imperial Wall and Imperial Ware as the floor, and contains furniture from the Exotic Collection, such as the bed, bench, side table, chest, lamp, and screen. While Chow does not have a stereo in Animal Crossing, if he acquires one in the sequels, he will play K.K. Steppe in his house.
