Kapp'n (カッペイ, Kappei / うんてんしゅ, Chauffer) is a green turtle (kappa in the Japanese versions) that features in the SER as a driver of various forms of transport. He has been known to row boats, drive taxis and also drive buses.

Kapp'n himself is a sailor by nature, referring frequently to his life on the sea and speaking in stereotypical pirate tones. He has also expresses a fondness for women and singing old sea shanties.

Appearances
In Animal Crossing
In PG, he is the ferry operator who sails visitors and the player to the island (commonly known as Animal Island) through the Game Boy Advance cable. During the voyage to the island he sings a sea shanty, usually about his life on the sea and women.

In Animal Crossing: Wild World
In WW, he drives the black taxi to the town and acts as the introducing character responsible for the gender and appearance of the playable character, as well as the name of the town. This is a role he takes on from Rover. He can sometimes be seen in the The Roost drinking coffee. He will talk about his life at sea upon talking to him and will sometimes seem a bit grumpy.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk
In CF, he first appears driving the bus to the town, while Rover talks to the playable character determining the gender, and appearance of the character, as well as the name of the town. He will then appear again driving the bus to the city when going to the Bus Stop. During the journey to the city, he will talk about women, the city and modern day youngsters to male players. If the player is female, he will subtly flirt with them, calling them 'cute', 'pretty' and that a 'manly bus-driver is available'. If the player does not respond, he will begin to whistle his sea shanty.

He also appears in The Roost, as he did in WW, where he will talk about his life in more detail. He will appear there at 15:00 (3:00pm) to around 18:00 (6:00pm)
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf
In NL Kapp'n now drives a motorized boat, and will give you a ride to the ride to the island, while singing a little tune along the way. He now has a wife, named Leilani, a daughter named Kuku, and not features his mother, Grams living over at the shack, with a portside in the front entrance.
AM
spoiler

Kapp'n is seen at the beginning of AM driving Ai to Animal Village in his black taxi, like the one in WW. He appears later on in the film during the festival, as a member of the audience listening to K. K. Slider singing.
<br clear=all>
spoilerend

Trivia
*While rowing to the Island in and PG, Kapp'n sings one of a few random songs. A line to one of his songs is that he sings better than Mario.
*One of his sea shanties is about cucumbers. In Japanese folklore, cucumbers were thrown into rivers with the names of children and/or families on. This would spare a family when bathing in a river with a Kappa in it. Children, and sometimes adults, are believed to be one of their favorite foods - cucumbers being their favorite. They would also help humans and not break an oath. This may relate to how friendly he is towards humans in the SER series.
*In the middle of his songs, Kapp'n says something to the player, one time which he claims he hates squirrels.
*Though Kapp'n says, or rather sings, that he loves cucumbers, at the end of his songs, sometimes, he sings that zucchinis give him the spooks, "Zucchini spooks."
*If in City Folk the player leaves the game idle long enough, Kapp'n will begin to whistle Totakeke's Song, which also appears as K.K. Song.
*While riding on the bus, in City Folk, Kapp'n is interested in celebrity gossip, and will question the player for juicy secrets, shortly before arriving at the City.
*In Wild World there is a small figurine in his taxi of him and his boat from Animal Crossing.
*In WW, taking a certain amount of time, (usually longer than needed.) the figurine falls off when your just about to leave the taxi. The reason is unknown and most likely random.
*On the bus in City Folk, there is a poster with Lyle on it.
*He is seen on the Animal Crossing: New Leaf Japanesse Box-art in his boat near the Islands.
*In Animal Crossing: City Folk you cannot see Kapp'ns drivers liscense, nor in Wild World.

Name
The word 'Kappa', from which Kapp'n derives, is the name for a river imp in Japanese folklore. They are mischevous in nature, and reptilian in appearance. His name could also be the sailor pronounciation of 'captain', where letters are missed out in certain words which is how sailors in the past were believed to have talked, saying things like 'yar!', 'sprat', 'garr' and will sometimes refer to the player as fish or sea creatures, such as 'scallop', 'Sea Bass', 'Sea Cucumber', and 'urchin'. He also wears a cap on his head, which may be of some relevance to his name.
Dōbutsu no Mori, どうぶつの森, Animal Forest in English, is the name of the first installment in the SER. It's for Nintendo 64 and it was only released in Japan. This game was translated and ported to the PowerPC-based Nintendo Gamecube because the Nintendo 64 was at the end of its life, and because of that sales would have been affected if it were released on the Nintendo 64. This game is compatible with the Expansion Pack and has a sharper image when it is used. This is due to the number of pixels in its resolution being multiplied by 4, from 320x240 (quarter of a normal television's resolution) to 640x480 (the exact resolution of a television). People have made fan translations, which translate most of the game. The game was released at the end of the Nintendo 64's lifespan.

GCN Port Similarities
*Animal Forest has been re released on the Nintendo GameCube with a translation of Animal Forest e+.
*Resetti still does the resetting punishment.
*The real-time clock made a new feature for games.
*K.K. Slider is still in the game.
*Famicom (NES) games are in it.
*Copper, Booker, Tom Nook, and others are in it.
*Questions are asked to determine your look.
*Tools are also the same.
*The player still owed debt to Tom Nook.
*Nook's Shop upgrades are in it.

GCN Port Differences
*The Able Sisters and their shop is not in Animal Forest, thus designs are not available.
*When you release fish in N64 Animal Forest, they bounce along the ground and into the water instead of diving straight in.
*Insects are not restricted by acres and can freely wander beyond into other acres. Banded Dragonflies and similar airbourne insects cannot fly too far out to sea in the N64 game, but in PG there is no limit.
*Some of the wallpapers and carpets from Animal Forest are redesigned or removed in PG.
*Some of the clothing from Animal Forest, for example, the N Logo shirt (G Logo in Animal Crossing), are redesigned or removed in Animal Crossing.
*Two sets of stationary from Animal Forest are redesigned, the New Year's Card and the Fortune Paper.
*The holidays from Animal Forest are either changed or removed in PG.
*Tom Nook wears very slightly different uniforms.
*The Wishing Well from PG is a Bell Shrine in Animal Forest. On New Year's Day, instead of tossing a coin in the fountain, you shake the thick rope in the middle and the bells ring.
*The input keyboard from PG is a dial that contains the letters, numbers, and symbols that appear on the screen in Animal Forest.
*In PG, Gulliver would give the player a rare furniture piece for saving him. In Animal Forest, he gives the player a random furniture piece.
*In PG, three items could be stored in container furniture such as dressers, wardrobes, etc. In Animal Forest, only one item can be stored in those kinds of furniture.
*In PG, any house you start out with had a wooden box that had a college rule journal on top. In Animal Forest, this is not included, so this means this feature was either not included or both items have to be bought from Nook.
*In PG, the catalog has a section called "Handhelds" where umbrellas, pinwheels, fans, balloons and tools could be ordered. In Animal Forest, this section is called "Umbrellas" and only umbrellas can be ordered from that section. This means pinwheels, fans, balloons, and tools cannot be ordered from the catalog.
*In PG, the player could store multiple airchecks in Stereos, Radios, etc. In Animal Forest, only one aircheck could be stored in them.
*Buildings such as Tom Nook's shop, the Post Office, and the Dump have slightly redesigned logos in PG.
*There is no Museum, thus there is no Blathers. The Faraway Museum still exists, and fossils can be sent there for identification.
*Taking a trip on Animal Forest requires the player have 1 Controller Pak to save travel data on, and two Controller Paks are needed to travel directly. In PG, an extra Memory Card is used to save travel data, and the player can travel directly to the other town if 2 Memory Cards with town data are in use at the same time.
*The American PG has e-Reader support, as well as the Japanese GameCube e+ version of Animal Forest along with e-Reader+ support. The European version of PG and Animal Forest don't have e-Reader support because it was never released in Europe and it was not yet released in Japan at the time the Nintendo 64 was at its end, respectively... so instead of there being an e-reader machine in the Post Office, there is just a bench.
*Mayor Tortimer was not a character yet, so you could not obtain any gifts from him.
*During the Cherry Blossom Festival, all the villagers sit on mats like the Japanese do.
*Katrina wore a white headband instead of the normal veil that she wears.
*Instead of buying stationary as a pack of four, only one piece of paper can be bought at a time.
*A GB or GBC is used instead of a GBA.
*In PG, a Money Rock appears for every player in a village each day. In Animal Forest there is only one money rock per town per day, no matter how many people are playing.
*There was no tropical island and there was no Kapp'n.
*If you hit a villager with a net it will not affect them.
*There are no weeds.
*Pete the Pelican does not exist
*Items looks different when on the ground. Stationary is a paper bag with a leaf on it. Clothing is a treasure chest.
*Flowers go dormant in the winter(?)
*No pitfalls.
*No Blanca.
*No coconuts(?)
*Mystery items for sale at Nooks. (early January?)
