His [[Wikipedia:Rottweiler|rottweiler]] appearance may also relate to this, as they too appear masculine and muscular. Some people mistake him for a [[Wikipedia:German Shepard Dog|german shepard]], but he is in fact a rottweiler. His initial phrase, "ROOOOOWF", is a slight adjustment on the spelling "woof" and "ruff". He is also the only [[dog]] with a [[cranky]] personality.<br />

Butch is a caramel orange-brown and chocolate ebony dog with creamy white and dark brown tipped paws, possibly being a Rottweiler or Doberman. His eyebrows always show a frown. He has a great, dark dog nose with a corkscrew smile and his eyes look very serious. His dark brown, floppy dog ears slightly transition into a caramel color at the tip. His tail is also dark chocolate and his arms and legs are the same color as his head. He wears an Arctic Camo that is a very snowy, light blue with slightly darker blue, large spots splashed around on top of it. Butch also wears a Houndstooth Knit in Animal Crossing (GCN) when he gets into the player's town or he will wear designs the player makes.<br />

As a cranky villager, Butch will appear more adult and mature compared to other male villager types.
